Waffles and Chicken Nuggets Recipe

Chicken Waffles Recipes
Share on:

I found my mini waffle maker in the back of the pantry when I did the spring clean the other day, and of course, I needed to use it right away just so I could forget about it for another six months. I’m not the biggest fan of sweet waffles, so I made an aromatic, savory version to serve with my fried crispy chicken. It turned out party-worthy, so I’m sharing with you a recipe for chicken waffles so that you can serve them at get-togethers this summer – they are true crowd-pleasers!

Why Will You Love this Recipe?

  • The Best Texture: Chicken prepared this way offers a flawless texture – juicy inside and incredibly crispy outside. I like my waffles a tad crunchy but still airy and soft in the middle.
  • Rich Flavors: Crispy chicken coated in parmesan will give you a nutty, slightly rich taste and pungent aroma. A handful of gouda in the waffle butter gives them caramel-like undertones when toasted, with a sprinkle of herbs for a refreshing twist.
  • Mini Size: I made them, both waffles and chicken, two-bite-sized, which makes them ideal to serve at a party. This combination is heaven for picky eaters, but it is still more nutritious than any nugget you can buy in fast food chains.

Recipe Variations

  • Change the Breading: Instead of breadcrumb and parmesan-based breading, you can go for classic egg wash and flour or, for a crispier option, cornflakes or crushed salty sticks.
  • Change the Waffle Batter: Add some finely chopped scallions or jalapeños to the batter for some spice. If you want them herbier, add some thyme, rosemary, mint, sage, or anything you like actually.

I love making mini foods! I marinated chicken tender chunks in Greek yogurt and spices to get the signature tender and succulent bites. The breading is super crunchy and aromatic because of the parmesan and granulated garlic in the mixture. I drizzled it with my favorite sweet chili sauce, but you can go for whatever sauce you fancy – from honey to hot sauce. Here is the only recipe for the best Chicken Waffles you’ll ever need!

For Crispy Chicken

  • 3 chicken breasts (cubed)
  • 1 cup Greek yogurt
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 tbsp parsley
  • 1 tsp turmeric
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • ¼ cup parmesan
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 cups vegetable oil (for frying)

For Waffles

  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • ¼ cup milk
  • ¼ cup Greek yogurt
  • ¾ cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds
  • 1 tbsp flaxseeds
  • ½ cup shredded gouda
  • 1 tbsp chives
  • 1 tsp salt

Fry the Chicken

  • Slice chicken breasts into two bite-size cubes. Marinate the chicken for half an hour in Greek yogurt and spices: salt, pepper, parsley, turmeric, cayenne pepper, and onion powder.
  • In a large dish, merry breadcrumbs, a tad of salt, parmesan, and garlic powder.
  • Pour vegetable oil into a skillet and heat it over medium.
  • Coat the chicken into the breadcrumbs mixture and fry them until golden. This will take about 5 minutes, as the chicken chunks are small, and they could dry out.
  • Arrange them on a paper towel to absorb residual oil.

Make the Waffles

  • In a large bowl, mix wet ingredients: eggs, milk, Greek yogurt, and olive oil.
  • Add flour, baking powder, a pinch of salt, chives, sesame, and flaxseeds. Combine all the ingredients so there are no lumps of flour left.
  • Spray some oil on your waffle maker and heat it over medium. Pour the batter and bake until golden on top. This could take 5-10 minutes, depending on how strong your gadget is.

  • Serve chicken and waffles with sweet chili sauce (or any other you love). Slice some tomato and butter lettuce salad on the side.
