Why Lady Gaga’s Kitchen Might Be Her Best-Kept Secret

She has won multiple Grammys and an Oscar, built a beauty empire with Haus Labs, and filled stadiums on every continent. But somewhere between the theatrical costumes and the headline performances, Stefani Germanotta has quietly become one of Hollywood’s most passionate home cooks. Lady Gaga’s relationship with food is rooted in something deeply personal, and it goes well beyond green smoothies and tour snack packs.
The Italian-American Kitchen at Her Core
Food and heritage are inseparable for Gaga. She is Italian-American, her parents run Joanne Trattoria, a beloved Italian restaurant on New York’s Upper West Side, and when she is at home, her personal chef and childhood friend Bo O’Connor has noted that she almost always gravitates toward Italian food, because the cuisine is simply home for her.
Her most talked-about home-cooked dish is a handmade ravioli stuffed with butternut squash and basil pesto, using herbs she grows in her own garden. She posted it on Instagram with the hashtag “#italiansdoitbest,” making her Italian pride impossible to miss.
Even Bradley Cooper was won over when they first sat down to discuss ‘A Star Is Born’, later saying her pasta put him immediately at ease.
The Rosé Twist Nobody Saw Coming
Then there is her Bolognese. Gaga announced on Instagram that her signature version of the classic includes one unexpected move. “Put rosé in my Bolognese. Making dinner with love and some spicy Italian gravy. mangia!” she wrote, describing it as a way to connect with her culture.
Multiple celebrity chefs weighed in and praised the idea, with experts telling TODAY Food that wine in Bolognese, rosé included, adds real depth and complexity to the sauce.
A Day on Gaga’s Plate
Away from the pasta pot, her daily eating is structured and purposeful. Her personal chef keeps her meals nutritious and filling, with breakfast typically landing on a coconut water smoothie or eggs with vegetables, and Greek yogurt with fruit and granola as a regular alternative.
When she wants something sweeter in the morning, O’Connor makes a whole wheat French toast that Gaga herself calls a “half-cheat meal.”
Lunch tends to be a quinoa bowl with black beans, grilled shrimp, and a generous amount of vegetables, while dinner often rotates between turkey burgers with sweet potato fries, roasted chicken, or gluten-free pasta loaded with greens and shrimp.
For snacks on tour, she carries almond butter with Scandinavian crackers, alongside green juice built on kale, spinach, celery, and lemon.
The Night She Told Everyone to Just Eat
Gaga does not let any of this tip into rigidity. The night before the 2019 Golden Globes, where she was nominated for ‘A Star Is Born’, she posted a bowl of Fruity Pebbles alongside a burger and fries on Instagram, captioning it “gotta fuel up.”
When asked about the meal that evening, she told reporters that women should simply eat what they want and not let anyone, or any industry, tell them otherwise.
Between the homemade ravioli, the rosé Bolognese, and the pre-Globes cereal bowl, what comes through most clearly is someone who sees food as culture, comfort, and connection. Lady Gaga happens to cook as passionately as she performs, and that turns out to be saying quite a lot.
