She has been one of the most naturally glowing people on screen since ‘Mean Girls’, and the food choices behind that look are far less complicated than most people assume. Rachel McAdams has spoken candidly about what she actually eats, and the pattern that emerges is one that revolves around a few consistent principles she has stuck to for years.

The Daily Habit She Never Skips

Greens and seeds show up in McAdams’ meals with almost clockwork regularity. She has said that she eats a lot of both, preferring organic wherever possible and making vegetables a non-negotiable part of her daily routine.

The habit showed up behind the scenes too. Her director on ‘The Vow’ told SELF that between takes the cast snacked on vegetables specifically to avoid the energy crashes that come with long shooting days.

Protein and Fat at Every Meal

One thing McAdams has been deliberate about is making sure protein and a healthy fat appear at every single meal. She has described this as a consistent rule she follows regardless of what else is on the plate, citing it as a key part of how she maintains her energy throughout the day.

Her meals include lean proteins like chicken and fish, healthy fats from avocado and olive oil, and whole grains like quinoa and brown rice. No low-fat products, no restrictive phases.

What Vegetarianism Taught Her

McAdams tried cutting out meat entirely at one point, and it did not go well. She has said it left her exhausted, largely because she ended up surviving on pasta without the protein her body needed. The experience informed everything that followed: she eats meat, she prioritizes balance, and she has not entertained the idea of a fad diet since.

The lesson she took from that experiment is baked into how she eats today.

The Food She Would Eat Every Day

In a recent interview with The Infatuation, McAdams was asked what her one desert island food would be. Without hesitation she said oysters. “I could just eat oysters all the livelong day,” she said. “Easy on the environment, you’re still getting protein… so many different flavor profiles. It’s like wine.”

It is a choice that tells you a lot. Oysters are dense in zinc, B12, and skin-supporting minerals, and they happen to be one of the most nutrient-efficient foods available.

The overall picture McAdams paints of her diet is one of thoughtfulness rather than restriction. Good quality food, eaten in moderation, with the same two building blocks at every meal. Not revolutionary, but clearly working.
