The Patriotic Chia Pudding You’ll Want to Bring Everywhere This July 4th

If you know someone who meal-preps on Sunday, loves a dessert that doubles as breakfast, or gets quietly competitive about bringing the most impressive dish to a potluck — this one is for them. (And honestly, it might be for you too.)
This red, white, and blue chia pudding parfait is the kind of recipe that looks far more impressive than the effort it requires.
It’s ideal for anyone trying to keep things light over the holiday weekend without missing out on something festive and sweet.
Kids love the layers and the colorful berries on top. Adults appreciate that it won’t undo a week of healthy eating.
The best part? It travels beautifully. Pack the jars in a cooler and they’ll hold up perfectly at a backyard cookout, a picnic by the lake, or a rooftop gathering.
No baking, no melting, no last-minute assembly — just pull them out of the cooler and hand them over. A sprig of fresh mint on top and they look like something from a café menu.
Make them the night before and let the fridge do all the work. By the time the fireworks start, dessert is already done.
Patriotic Chia Pudding Parfait
Serves: 4
Time: 10 minutes prep + overnight chilling
Ingredients
Chia pudding layer
- 6 tablespoons chia seeds
- 2 cups milk of choice (dairy, oat, or almond all work well)
- 2 tablespoons honey
Granola layer
- 1½ cups sugar-free granola with dried berries
Berry topping
- ½ cup fresh strawberries, hulled and halved
- ½ cup raspberries
- ½ cup fresh blueberries
- Fresh mint leaves, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Make the chia pudding. Whisk together the chia seeds, milk, and honey in a bowl or large measuring cup. Let it sit for 5 minutes, then whisk again to break up any clumps. Cover and refrigerate overnight, or for at least 4 hours, until thick and pudding-like.
- Layer the jars. Spoon the chia pudding evenly into four glasses or mason jars, filling each about halfway.
- Add the granola. Sprinkle a generous layer of granola over the chia pudding in each jar.
- Top with berries. Arrange the strawberries, raspberries and blueberries over the granola. For a festive look, place a few blueberries between the strawberry halves so both colors show.
- Garnish and serve. Tuck a small sprig of fresh mint into the top of each jar if you like. Serve straight from the fridge, or keep chilled in a cooler for up to 6 hours.
Tip: For a creamier pudding, swap half the milk for coconut cream. To make it vegan, use maple syrup instead of honey and any plant-based milk.
