Goop started in 2008 as a weekly newsletter and grew into a lifestyle empire now valued at approximately $250 million. It spans beauty, fashion, wellness products, a Netflix series, retail stores, and a ghost kitchen called Goop Kitchen that serves clean food free from refined sugars, gluten, dairy, seed oils, and preservatives.
Bloomberg described Goop as the epicenter of the multi-trillion dollar wellness industry, a market that has only kept growing since Paltrow planted her flag in it by avoiding sugar and sharing why.
The Controversy That Came With It
Not everyone was charmed. When a viral clip of Paltrow describing her daily routine circulated in 2023, including intermittent fasting and bone broth for lunch, the internet called it a starvation diet. Dietitians weighed in, TikTok debated it, and Paltrow clarified that she ate full meals and had days of french fries and whatever she wanted.
Her reason for the strict anti-inflammatory approach, she explained, was personal. She cited long COVID and genetic markers raising her risk of Alzheimer’s, saying reducing inflammation had been working really well for her.
The Plot Twist She Announced Herself
Here is the part that made headlines in April 2025. After years of strict paleo and anti-inflammatory eating, Paltrow announced on her Goop podcast that she had started eating sourdough bread, cheese, and pasta again, admitting she had got a little didactical about it all.
The woman who built a fortune on saying no to sugar and gluten finally said yes to pasta, and the internet, for once, seemed genuinely pleased for her.
