A new ranking of the best food destinations in Europe just dropped, and one country is impossible to ignore. Out of the top 20 spots, a full six of them belong to a single place, and it is exactly the country you would expect.

Rome And Bologna Lead The Pack

Rome claimed the very top spot, pulling in an impressive 80,600 searches for food tours alone. The city’s food culture leans heavily on neighborhood markets, generational family recipes and hands on pasta making classes that let travelers get their hands doughy with fresh fettuccine.

Right behind it came Bologna, earning its second place ranking with 60,100 searches of its own. Nicknamed La Grassa, or the fat one, the city has built its entire identity around dishes like tortellini in brodo, traditional lasagne and mortadella, along with the tagliatelle al ragù that gave the whole world its idea of what bolognese should actually taste like.

Naples Keeps Italy’s Grip On The Top Ten

Naples rounded out Italy’s top ten presence, landing in 10th place with close to 25,000 searches behind it. The city’s connection to food runs deeper than tourism, with pizza making recently recognized as a protected cultural tradition tied to community and identity rather than just a meal.

Street food culture is just as central to the ranking’s appeal. Locals still gather outside takeaway counters for fried seafood cones and rum soaked pastries, the kind of everyday food ritual that keeps travelers coming back long after their first slice of Neapolitan pizza.

Three More Italian Cities Round Out The List

Venice, Florence and Milan filled out the rest of Italy’s six spots, each bringing something completely different to the table. Venice landed at 11th place with its lagoon based seafood traditions, while Florence took 14th with Tuscan staples built around olive oil and rustic bread, and Milan closed things out at 17th with a more contemporary spin on classic Lombard cooking.

The ranking itself is based on real search data rather than opinion, tracking where travelers are actually planning food focused trips. That matters because over 56 percent of travelers now say culinary experiences are a major reason they choose a destination in the first place, not just a nice bonus once they arrive.
