Strawberry cakes are evergreen. And with all those strawberry cake mixes, they have become even more popular because the mixes make the procedure far simpler with little to no mess. But there’s another reason why strawberry cake mixes are so well-known: you can modify the recipe and make other sweet delights with them, such as waffles. So, how to make strawberry cake mix waffles?

The waffle-making procedure for strawberry cake mix waffles is virtually the same as regular waffles; the number of ingredients needs to be adjusted. The essentials are strawberry cake mix, flour, milk, eggs, and oil. Pureed strawberries are always welcome, but the batter will need more butter.

Strawberry cake mix waffles are a great idea to brighten your day and turn a snack into a fun experience. The color, the flavor, and the aroma of these waffles will undoubtedly inspire you to make them many more times. In the following paragraphs, I will explain how to make strawberry cake mix waffles, what to put on them, how to store them, and whether or not you can turn the strawberry cake mix into a pancake batter.

Here’s how to make strawberry cake mix waffles

The procedure doesn’t change much whether you make waffles with regular batter or strawberry cake mix. However, you will need to mix the strawberry cake batter more than regular waffle batter.

I prepared some tips for you on how to make the easy, yet perfect strawberry cake mix waffles, so I suggest reading them in this section. However, if you want to go straight to the recipe, just click on the “Jump to Recipe” button.

The strawberry cake mix contains thickeners such as starch and emulsifiers such as gums, meaning that it will be prone to lumps and generally have a thicker structure. Therefore, the most important part of making waffles with strawberry cake mix is the mixing. However, your strawberry cake mix waffles will still have a thicker and cookie-like consistency, but that’s not a problem, as they will be delicious.

Besides the mixing, it is also essential to separate the liquid ingredients from the dry, meaning you mix the liquids and dry ingredients in separate bowls and add the dry ingredients to the liquid. Do not do this process in reverse, adding the liquid to the dry ingredients, as you will likely end up with one giant lump.

Add two eggs, one and a half cups of strawberry cake mix, one and a half cups of milk, half a cup of oil, and ¾ a cup of flour. Adjust the dosage if you need to by slowly adding more of some ingredients. If you add more liquids than necessary, just add more flour to stabilize the batter, and add more milk if you have gone overboard with the dry ingredients.

This dosage will give you four to five medium-sized waffles.

Adjust the batter by adding milk or flour. Be very careful; add the milk/flour very slowly and mix before adding more. Do not add an extra egg, more oil, or more cake mix.

If you add strawberry puree to the mix, then mash the strawberries until they become fully creamy and mix them with milk and butter before adding them to the batter. Make sure there aren’t any strawberry chunks in the puree, but just a nice, smooth consistency. Mix the strawberry puree until it fully homogenizes with the rest of the ingredients.

Preheat the waffle iron and put some oil on it. Cook the waffles for two-three minutes, and enjoy!

What to put on strawberry cake mix waffles?

Topping your strawberry cake mix waffles is the most fun part. Strawberry chunks topped off with chocolate are the most obvious idea, and you simply can’t go wrong with it.

Strawberry jam and crushed nuts are also excellent toppings for your waffles. You can also sprinkle dry cookie crumbs, and you will have a creamy and crunchy dessert at the same time.

Cover your waffles with whipped cream and place berries on them. You will get an aesthetically pleasing and a fresh and creamy treat.

Honey and chocolate sprinkles may sound a bit unusual, as they mostly go with chocolate, but it is worth a try. You will be pleasantly surprised.

Another tasty idea is to put dark chocolate cream and thin apple slices on your waffles. The apple slices will break through the sweetness and give your waffles a fresh zest, and the bitterness of the dark chocolate cream will balance everything out.

Crème fraiche, ricotta, whipped cream, or whipped buttermilk will refine your waffles and give them a more elegant appearance and flavor. Combine them with a nutty or fruity topping.

How many waffles do you get from one strawberry cake mix?

One strawberry cake mix yields up to six to eight four-inch waffles. However, since the consistency of the waffles would be thicker than regular, you can get up to ten four-inch waffles.

How long do strawberry cake mix waffles last?

On the counter, your strawberry cake mix waffles would last for a few hours. If you want to overnight them, you need to refrigerate them. Refrigeration would keep your waffles safe for up to two days.

The perishable ingredients- milk, butter, eggs, in the waffles won’t go bad in the fridge, but you will ruin the structure of the waffles if you keep them in the fridge longer than the recommended period.

Can you use strawberry cake mix for pancakes?

You can use strawberry cake mix for pancakes, but you need to adjust the batter by adding more liquids (milk, sparkling water).

Increase the dosage of the milk and sparkling water by half a cup compared to the amount you add in regular pancake batter. Also, mixing is very important here, so don’t stop mixing while adding the dry ingredients to the liquids.

Just like with the waffles, here, too, you need to mix the dry and liquid ingredients separately before merging them.

If you add strawberry puree to the batter, make sure it is smooth and lump-free.

Ingredients

  • 1,5 cup Betty Crocker Strawberry Cake Mix You can also use any other strawberry cake mix, such as Pillsbury, Duncan Hines, or some other.
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1,5 cup Milk
  • 1/5 cup Vegetable Oil
  • 3/4 cup All-Purpose Flour

Instructions

  • Preheat the waffle iron and put some oil on it, preferably using the cooking spray.
  • Mix dry ingredients (cake mix, flour) in one bowl, and wet ingredients (eggs, milk, oil) in another bowl.
  • Slowly add dry ingredients to wet ingredients while constantly mixing with an electric mixer. Don't do it in reverse, so you avoid lumps.
  • The batter should be semi-dense. It shouldn't be runny, but also not thick as dough. So, if you need to make your batter denser, add a little bit more flour. If your batter is too thick, add a little bit of milk.

  • Carefully pour some of the mixture into the waffle iron. Don't pour too much of it because the batter will rise, and therefore increase its volume.
  • Bake each waffle for 2-3 minutes, and serve with your favorite toppings. I suggest whipped cream, fresh strawberries and chocolate syrup.

Notes

Strawberry cake mix waffles will last for up to two days in the fridge, and only for a couple of hours at room temperature.
