Waking up before most people have gone to sleep used to be the headline of Mark Wahlberg’s routine, the kind of extreme schedule that made for great interview fodder. Lately, the story behind his physique has shifted toward something a little less about shock value and a lot more about staying power.

The workouts are still demanding, but what he eats and how he recovers have become just as central to how he talks about staying in shape.

A High-Protein Breakfast That Never Changes

Wahlberg has been consistent about starting the day with the same meal, built around hard-boiled eggs, scrambled eggs with turkey, salmon, and a bowl of blueberries. “Same old, same old, every day,” he’s said about the routine, crediting the repetition with how steady he feels.

That combination leans heavily on healthy fats and antioxidant-rich fruit alongside the protein, a pairing nutrition researchers generally connect with reduced inflammation. Sticking with the same breakfast daily removes any guesswork from the start of his day.

Fasting Took Him Longer to Try Than He Wanted

Despite his reputation for discipline, Wahlberg has said intermittent fasting wasn’t something he adopted until later than he expected. “I’ll kinda splurge here and there,” he’s admitted about his current eating style, describing fasting as the tool that finally let him indulge more without setback.

Most days now involve eating within a set window, with his first meal often held off until midday. That structure gives him room for less strict choices later without derailing the overall plan.

Recovery Has Replaced a Second Workout

Where Wahlberg once trained twice a day without exception, his routine has shifted noticeably toward prioritizing rest. “For me, it’s all about longevity,” he’s said of the change, pointing to ice baths and stretching as the pieces he now treats as essential rather than optional.

That shift from raw volume to recovery reflects a broader change in how he approaches training generally. Getting the workout in still matters, but skipping the second session hasn’t hurt the results.

Meals Come Every Few Hours

Trainer Jeff Cavaliere, who reviewed Wahlberg’s typical daily eating pattern, has pointed to frequent, smaller meals as a defining feature of the plan. “I’m a big believer in the value of eating every three hours,” Cavaliere has said about the approach, describing a day built around five to six distinct meals rather than three larger ones.

Protein shows up in nearly every one of them, paired with vegetables, fruit, and the occasional handful of nuts. That structure keeps his energy fairly level across a schedule that starts hours before sunrise.

Discipline Still Leaves Room for a Treat

Even with a routine this structured, Wahlberg has acknowledged the occasional indulgence, mentioning chocolate or a pasta meal on weekends as something he doesn’t fully cut out. Those moments stay the exception rather than the rule, but they’re treated as part of a sustainable plan rather than a failure of it.

That balance between discipline and flexibility appears to be part of what’s let the routine hold up for as long as it has. A plan built entirely on restriction rarely survives contact with real life, and his hasn’t needed to.
