Kourtney Kardashian’s (47) Kids Grow Up With Strict Food Rules—Inside Her Wellness Kitchen

A famous last name usually comes with a famously chaotic pantry, at least according to the stereotype. Kourtney Kardashian’s kitchen runs almost the opposite way, built around a specific set of rules that extend well beyond just what’s in the fridge.

Some of those rules are about ingredients. Others have nothing to do with food at all, and that distinction says a lot about how deliberate the whole system actually is.

The Microwave Got Banned From Her Kitchen Entirely

Kourtney has been upfront about cutting an appliance most households consider essential. “One kitchen appliance I never use is a microwave,” she’s said.

Anything that needs reheating goes into the oven, stovetop, or toaster oven instead.

Her reasoning traces back to research she did after having her first child, specifically around concerns that reheating food in plastic containers could transfer chemicals into the food itself.

Whether or not every parent agrees with that conclusion, it’s clearly shaped how her kitchen actually operates day to day.

Dinner Happens Without Any Screens at the Table

Food rules aside, Kourtney has also banned iPads during family meals. The goal, as she’s described it, is having “a meal where everyone can interact and talk to each other” rather than four kids quietly scrolling through separate screens.

That rule turns dinner into one of the only consistently device-free windows in a household that otherwise runs on busy schedules. It’s a small structural choice, but one that shapes the whole tone of the meal regardless of what’s actually being served.

A Sensitivity Test Shaped the Whole Family’s Diet

The decision to cut gluten and dairy wasn’t arbitrary, at least according to Kourtney. She’s said the family had muscle testing done that pointed to sensitivities to corn, gluten, and dairy across the household.

That testing became the basis for how everyone in the house eats.

Muscle testing itself isn’t a standard diagnostic tool recognized in mainstream medicine, but it’s clearly the explanation she’s settled on for a dietary shift that’s stayed consistent across years of interviews.

Whatever the scientific merit, the resulting kitchen rules have remained firmly in place.

The Pantry Is Stocked With a Very Specific Rotation

Beyond the big restrictions, the actual day-to-day menu follows a fairly consistent pattern. Breakfasts tend to rotate between gluten-free waffles, scrambled eggs, and cereals like quinoa clusters.

Lunches lean on a similar set of staples: rice tortillas, big salads, and gluten-free pasta paired with a protein.

Snacks follow the same logic, built around brown rice crackers, dried mango, and dairy-free yogurt rather than anything from a conventional snack aisle.

Kourtney has summed up the approach simply: “we still need to have a little fun and indulge,” even within those boundaries.

The Family’s Chef Keeps a List of What Each Kid Will and Won’t Eat

Running a kitchen this specific for multiple kids takes more than willpower, which is where the family’s longtime chef comes in.

She’s described keeping a “never and forever” list for each person she cooks for, tracking exactly what to avoid and what to always have on hand.

That level of tracking is really what makes a household this size functional without constant renegotiation at every meal. A documented list removes the guesswork, which matters considerably more once there are several different kids with different preferences to account for.

Even a Year Without Fries Has a Breaking Point

Not every rule holds forever, even in a household this disciplined. Kourtney’s son once went an entire year without eating french fries.

When he finally asked again, pointing out it had “been a year since I’ve had it,” she still turned him down in the moment.

“Today’s not the day, sorry,” she told him.

It’s a small exchange, but it captures just how consistently the household’s food boundaries get enforced, even against a pretty reasonable request.
