Who doesn’t love cornbread? There’s nothing like a warm, fluffy piece of cornbread spread with butter or honey to complete a meal. And while I’ve had my share of disappointing cornbread results, I’ve also learned a few tricks that help me make perfect cornbread every time. The first step is to use Krusteaz cornbread mix. While there are so many variations, my favorite is this delicious and fluffy mix that turns out beautifully every time with a few tweaks. I want to show you how to make an excellent Krusteaz cornbread. So, how to make Krusteaz Cornbread better?

A handful of corn kernels, some diced jalapeños, a tablespoon of honey or sugar, sour cream, bacon, cheese, or berries can make all the difference. For better results, you should choose the right pan and let it cool completely before cutting into it.

I’ll cover everything from the ingredients you should add to the cooking method that gives you the best results. So whether you’re a cornbread beginner or an experienced pro, you’ll find something useful here. Let’s get started!

Krusteaz cornbread hacks

First, be sure to follow the instructions on the package strictly. But then feel free to add your own ingredients to give it some extra flavor because the basic version often lacks flavor for some people. Lastly, experiment with cooking times and temperatures until you find what works best for you. Everyone’s oven is different, so it’s essential to find what works for your setup.

Here’s what else you can do to improve your Krusteaz cornbread:

Add corn

If you want to give your cornbread a little more of a corn flavor, you can add a can of corn to the mix. Just drain the corn and add it to the other ingredients. You can use either fresh or canned corn, whatever you have on hand. Adding corn to cornbread will also enhance its texture, so it’s a win-win.

Add sugar or honey

If you want your cornbread a little sweeter, you can add sugar or honey to the mixture. I like to add a quarter cup of honey, but you can start with less and add more depending on your taste.

Another option is to add a half cup of sugar, but again, you can start with less and add more depending on your preference. Lastly, you can also use brown sugar to give the cornbread a more intense flavor.

Use sour cream or Greek yogurt to make it moist

If you’re looking for a way to make your cornbread extra special, give this tip a try. I like to add a dollop of sour cream or Greek yogurt to my cornbread mix to make it extra moist. I find that this brings out the flavor of the cornbread even more and makes it more delicious. It’s sure to please everyone at the table!

Add jalapenos or similar spices

If you want to add a little bit of spice to your cornbread mix, then I suggest adding some chopped jalapenos (or a similar pepper). Just mix them in with the rest of the ingredients before baking. This will give the cornbread a nice kick and make it more interesting.

If you want, you could also experiment with other spices, like cumin or chili powder. Just be sure not to add too much, or it will overpower the corn flavor.

Add bacon and cheese

This is one of my favorite ways to jazz up a boxed mix, and it’s so simple. Just add some chopped bacon and shredded cheese to the batter before baking. The result is a cornbread that is flavorful and cheesy and just plain good.

I like to serve it with butter, but it’s also delicious with spicy jalapeno jelly on top.

Add berry fruits

I love adding berries to my cornbread mix. This is another way to make a sweet and delicious version of cornbread. It not only adds a little sweetness but also a lot of flavor.

So, from raspberries to blueberries and blackberries, you can really use any berries you like. Just add them in when you mix the batter together.

Choose the right pan and be patient

There are a few hacks that I swear by when it comes to making perfect Krusteaz cornbread. First, always use a 9-inch cast-iron skillet. This will ensure that your cornbread is the ideal thickness and doesn’t get too dry.

Second, let your cornbread cool completely before cutting it. If you try to cut into it while it’s still warm, it’ll crumble and be a mess.

Improved Krusteaz cornbread recipe

With a little bit of creativity and attention to detail, you can easily impress your friends and family with your homemade cornbread. I’m always looking for ways to improve my cornbread, and I’m sure you are too. After all, the perfect cornbread can be a real game-changer for any meal.

So I did some digging and found some tips and tricks that I think will help us make the perfect cornbread every time.

How to make improved Krusteaz cornbread?

As I’ve already said, you can make the boxed cornbread in no time, while you have seen above that there are many options you could use and improve this fantastic recipe. Let’s look at what you need to make a perfect cornbread by using some of the hacks I mentioned above.

  • 15oz (425g) of Krusteaz cornbread mix
  • 2 eggs – these, melted butter, and milk are directions from the box
  • ⅓ a cup of melted butter
  • ½ a cup of milk – while the box says ⅔ cup of milk, I am using less because I will be adding sour cream as well.
  • a cup of sour cream – to make your cornbread extra moist.
  • ½ a cup of corn – for a more intense flavor.

Now, let’s have a look at a few easy and quick steps for a perfect cornbread.

Step 1: Preheat the oven

Preheat the oven to 375°F (around 190°C) and prepare a cast iron skillet that you will lightly grease.

Step 2: Mixing the ingredients

Follow the box instructions and mix eggs, milk, and butter. But, before adding the cornbread mix, add the sour cream and mix everything nicely together. Once you add the mix, blend everything with a spoon and then make the final touch by adding fresh, canned, or frozen corn directly to the mix.

Step 3: Baking

Pour the mixture into the pan and bake for approximately 22 minutes or until golden brown. You can check whether the bread is done by sticking a toothpick and ensuring it is clean when pulled out. Allow the bread to cool down for at least 15 minutes, and enjoy!

How to store Krusteaz cornbread to keep it fresh?

Once you’ve made your perfect cornbread, you don’t want it to go to waste. So, how do you store it so that it stays fresh?

Ideally, you’ll want to store your cornbread in an airtight container at room temperature. This will keep it from getting dry or stale. If you have leftovers, you can also store them in the fridge or freezer. Just be sure to let them come to room temperature before serving them again.

How to reheat Krusteaz cornbread?

If you have leftovers, reheating is easy. Just put it in the microwave for a few seconds until warmed through. You can also reheat it in the oven, although I find the microwave is faster and easier.

If you want to reheat a whole pan of cornbread, preheat the oven to 350°F. Place the cornbread on a baking sheet and heat for 10-15 minutes or until baked through.
