However, the same statistics show that not only do people spend on gifts for their significant others, but they also purchase something for co-workers, pets, friends, and teachers. This is why total spending on these gifts is expected to reach $7.1 billion, which is higher than the last year but lower than in 2020.
In comparison, in 2022, the numbers were lower — $23.9 billion.

My own childhood Valentine’s Days were made mostly of chalky candy hearts with messages like “Be Mine” and “Kiss Me.” Since then, things have drastically changed.
