There is a certain image people build in their heads when they picture a celebrity backstage rider, think chilled champagne, imported chocolates, maybe a very specific temperature of room. Hilary Duff just blew that image up completely.

Ahead of an international tour, she walked through her actual list of tour must haves, and it reads less like a diva demand sheet and more like the inside of an average parent’s pantry. The details that came with it were even more relatable than the list itself.

The Tour Rider That Reads Like a Grocery List

Duff shared her full backstage lineup in a video, and it landed nothing like the usual celebrity excess people expect. Her rider includes chips and salsa, a jar of dill pickles, string cheese, a veggie tray, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, watermelon Sour Patch Kids, wine, flavored sparkling water, Diet Coke, and water.

Fans online could not get over how normal it all sounded, with more than one person joking it was basically their own snack list for a road trip or a rental house. It turns out even a pop star touring internationally still wants a jar of pickles within arm’s reach.

The Meat Stick Debate at Home

One item on the list came with its own small family drama attached. Duff’s rider also includes Chomps, a brand of protein packed meat jerky, and she explained that her kids have their own name for them, admitting “my kids call them meat sticks I’m like we got to change this”.

The detail struck a chord with fans too, several of whom admitted they use the exact same nickname in their own households. It is a small, specific detail, but it is the kind of thing that makes a celebrity’s daily life suddenly feel a lot closer to home.

The Cook Behind the Family’s Meals

Away from the tour bus, Duff is the one running the kitchen for her husband Matthew Koma and their four kids, Luca, Banks, Mae, and Townes. She has admitted there is a friendly rivalry over avocado toast, with her kids insisting their dad’s simpler version, just lemon, salt, and a heavy mash, somehow beats her more elaborate one with dill and chia seeds.

That kind of small household competition is instantly familiar to anyone who has ever been quietly out cooked by their own partner. It also paints a picture of a pretty ordinary family kitchen, chaos, opinions, and all.

A Snack Habit Even She Admits To

For all her talk of clean eating and air fried cauliflower rounds, Duff has been refreshingly honest about her actual daily habits too. While packing her kids’ lunches in the morning, she has admitted to eating a leftover chicken nugget straight off the plate before anyone notices it is missing.

It is a tiny, funny confession, but it undercuts the polished celebrity wellness narrative in the best possible way. Between the pickles, the meat sticks, and the stolen chicken nugget, Duff’s actual eating habits look a lot less like a strict regimen and more like real life with four kids running through the kitchen.

In the end, the rider says more about Duff as a mom than as a pop star. Snacks, pickles, and a stolen nugget here and there turn out to be a pretty universal language, tour bus or not.
