Healthy Sandwich Recipes for Lunch
You can never have too many healthy sandwich recipes, right?! Sandwiches are the easiest thing to pack up for work or school, but they are rarely healthy. So, I made a list of numerous highly nutritious recipes for you (and me) to try out. I would recommend that you find a good whole-grain bread you genuinely like and stick to it.
There are some super interesting combinations, as well, but I think you’ll love them! All of the sandwich recipes below have a few things in common: they are incredibly nutritious, loaded with micronutrients, slow-digesting carbs, fiber, healthy fats, and protein! Scroll down for the best lunch ideas ever!
Cottage Cheese Flatbread Sandwich
Here’s one protein-rich idea that doesn’t include the regular bread: cottage cheese flatbread sandwich. This flatbread easily went viral on social media because it’s so easy to make, healthy, and delicious.
Greek Yogurt Bagels
Greek Yogurt Bagels are a healthy sandwich idea for lunch! To keep it nutritious, fill them with lean proteins like turkey, tuna, grilled chicken, or hummus, and add fresh veggies such as spinach, tomatoes, and cucumbers. You can also spread avocado or low-fat cream cheese for healthy fats and extra flavor.
Tuna Salad Wrap
This tuna tortilla wrap recipe is a healthy and delicious alternative to a traditional sandwich! Packed with protein from tuna, vibrant veggies like cherry tomatoes and corn, and a creamy, tangy sauce, it’s a perfect lunch or quick meal. Wrap it up in a large tortilla, and you’ve got a portable, satisfying option that’s just as versatile as a sandwich but even more fun to eat.
Chicken Wrap
This chicken tortilla wrap is a simple and tasty meal that’s great for lunch or dinner! It’s made with juicy chicken, fresh veggies like lettuce, tomatoes, and corn, and a creamy sour cream sauce. Wrap it all up in a tortilla, and you’ve got an easy, healthy meal that’s perfect when you don’t feel like having a regular sandwich.
Healthy Carrot Salad Sandwich
Carrots are my favorite veggie for sandwiches on the go, as they stay crisp for the longest time! Plus, the dressing is spot on – super aromatic, spicy, and deep-flavored with soy sauce, mirin, sesame oil, lemon juice, dijon mustard, rice vinegar, and sesame seeds.
Beet Grilled Cheese Sandwich
Are there any beet lovers here? I love their earthy flavors, especially in combination with fresh arugula and scallion for a spicy kick. Of course, you can go with whole-wheat crusty bread!
Lentil Sandwich
Red lentils are a fine plant protein source, so they are a fabulous base for a vegan sandwich. This fusion is pretty special, as it involves loads of different antioxidant spices – coriander, turmeric, ginger, cumin, curry, garlic, mustard seeds, black pepper, mint, and lemon juice.
Mediterranean Veggie Sandwich
This is one of my favorite sandwich combos – hummus, avocado, and loads of veggies, like leafy greens, tomato, cucumber, roasted bell peppers, and red onion. I like to use whole-grain bread to add more fiber and slow-digesting carbs to my meals, too.
Mushroom and Spinach Melt
Mushrooms are a superb choice when you want some protein and meaty texture but no fats at all. The cheese selection is ideal here – provolone and fontina, as their melty texture and rich but not overwhelming smacks, are the perfect matches with thyme, spinach, and balsamic vinegar.
Edamame and Avocado Power Sandwich
Edamame mash is a brilliant idea – loaded with protein and incredibly delish. It is something like pesto with lemon juice, chives, and extra virgin olive oil blended into a creamy texture. It is perfect in this combination: whole grain bread, avocado, micro greens, and pickled red onion.
Strawberry Spinach Sandwich
If you fancy something light but highly nutritious for lunch, check this recipe out! It is a simple sandwich with sprouted grain bread, deli turkey, strawberries, baby spinach, avocado, alfalfa sprouts, and some cheese.
Chickpea Salad Sandwich
First things first, don’t forget to toast your bread, as it makes a huge difference! Mix up chickpeas with Dijon mustard, lemon juice, olive oil, and garlic, then mash them a bit to get a slightly creamy consistency.
Grilled Goat Cheese Sandwich with Pesto and Arugula
This is an ultimate sandwich combo: sourdough bread, goat cheese, mozzarella, parmesan, tomatoes, arugula, avocado, and pesto. One thing is clear – it is loaded with flavors and textures, melty and super rich!
Gourmet Banana Peanut Butter Sandwich
This combo right here is the best sweet thing you can have for breakfast, as it is overflowing with healthy fats that will keep you full for a long time! It is a fusion of walnuts, almond butter, peanut butter, banana, and a dash of cinnamon on sprouted wheat bread.
Cucumber Tuna Salad Sandwich
A classic tuna sandwich, but with a healthier twist? Yes, please! Instead of mayo, you have reduced-fat plain Greek yogurt mixed with solid white tuna in water, plus some herbs and spices for the flavor. This one is fantastic!
Smokey Black Bean Hummus and Avocado Sandwich
To be honest, I would never have the idea to make a sandwich with black beans, but here we are! They are a nice fount of plant protein and married with salsa, avocado, hummus, veggies, cheese, and multigrain bread; they make a fine, spicy bite!
Chicken Pesto Panini
This is the sandwich of all sandwiches – toasted panini just hits differently! You can use whole wheat ciabatta, but this recipe asks for whole-grain sandwich tins, which are awesome! Stuff them with chicken, arugula, roasted pepper, fresh mozzarella, and call it a day!
Smoked Salmon Sandwich
Simple yet effective, the smoked salmon sandwich is overflowing with flavors. The base is rye bread with some cream cheese, cucumber, red onion, arugula, and capers for a touch of tang.
Avocado Egg Salad Sandwich
If you love egg salad, test this recipe out! You will need eggs, egg whites, avocados, plain Greek yogurt, lemon juice, dijon mustard, and green onion for the spice. This sandwich has a fine share of healthy fats, proteins, and fiber – just go for whole-grain bread.
Turkey Apple Cheddar Sandwich
This sandwich is definitely not for everyone’s palate, but it is SO good! On a bed of whole grain bread, place smoked turkey, turkey bacon, sharp white cheddar, apple, pickled red onion, coleslaw, and avocado – an interesting combo, right?!
Healthy Chicken Avocado Pita Sandwich
Whole wheat pitas are one of the best ingredients to stock your pantry with! This is THE recipe I always make when I have leftover rotisserie chicken! Just marry it with some avocado, Greek yogurt, herbs, spices, cherry tomatoes, and Swiss cheese.
Easy Vegan Roasted Veggies and Hummus Sandwich
This is definitely a gourmet spread! Roast some bell peppers, portobello mushrooms, zucchini, and red onion – this simple step will skyrocket the taste of the veggies. Also, here are two amazing spread options – hummus and sundried tomato spread – YUM!
Avocado Veggie Sandwich
A fresh veggie sandwich is always a good idea! Of course, you don’t have to use these specific vegetables; you can just utilize what you already have in the fridge. Also, I prefer mustard for a spread in this combo or hummus when I add some carrots.
