Experts Say This Habit Might Be Aging You More Than You Think

Most people picture sunscreen, sugar, or bad sleep when they think about what speeds up aging. The habit experts are actually most worried about right now has nothing to do with any of that.
It is something most adults do for the majority of their waking hours without giving it a second thought. And researchers say it may be quietly aging both the body and the brain faster than expected.
Here is the habit worth paying closer attention to.
What the Habit Actually Is
The culprit is simply sitting too much. Between desk jobs, commutes, and evenings spent on a couch or in front of a screen, many adults spend the bulk of their day barely moving at all.
Neuropsychologist Megan Glenn, Psy.D., says that kind of inactivity does more than just weaken muscles over time. She told Yahoo Health that being sedentary “robs your brain of the fertilizer it needs” to stay sharp.
Why It Ages You Faster Than Expected
A sedentary lifestyle has been linked to reduced blood flow to the brain, poorer blood sugar control, and a higher risk of cognitive decline over time, according to brain health researchers. Harvard longevity scientist David Sinclair has pointed to sitting as one of the clearest ways the body is tricked into aging faster, alongside overeating.
The fix does not require a full workout routine. Standing up every hour, taking short walks during the day, or swapping a desk chair for a standing setup a few times a week can meaningfully cut down on total sitting time.
None of this means you need to abandon your desk job or give up movie nights on the couch. It just means the way you spend the hours in between matters just as much as anything on your skincare shelf.
