You are never too old to have a delicious McFlurry cup, but sometimes, the amount of this sweet delight can be a bit much, or you can buy one too many. Throwing it out is not the right option, so can you freeze McFlurry, and how long does it last?

Generally speaking,  you can freeze McFlurry ice cream, but it comes at a cost. The structure and consistency won’t be the same, and its creaminess will be lost. If frozen, opened McFlurry can last up to six weeks in the freezer and unopened for three to four months.

As a huge fan of McFlurry, I tend to go overboard with it, which is a mistake since you shouldn’t bite more than you can chew, and quite literally. Freezing McFlurry isn’t the best idea, but if you have to, there are things you need to know. In the following paragraphs, I will share how to freeze McFlurry ice cream, how long it lasts, how to keep it cold, and I will throw a thing or two about McDonald’s milkshakes too.

Can You Freeze McDonald’s Ice Creams?

First of all, McDonald’s ice creams fall into the self-serving ice cream category. They are soft and creamy and aren’t like typical ice creams. Therefore, they aren’t meant to make or store at home, as they require special storage conditions.

Secondly, freezing McDonald’s ice creams is possible, but you should keep in mind that these ice creams don’t do very well on temperatures lower than 0 °F, i.e., -17 °C. This means that you will have to adjust your freezer temperature, but you will risk spoiling your other food there since some of it may require lower temperatures.

Third, the McDonald’s ice creams are softer than the regular ones because more air bubbles are inside their content. Freezing them means that there will be ice crystals formed inside the ice cream, which will turn to water once you take it out.

Your ice cream will never regain its texture, softness, and creaminess if you freeze it. Its taste will also diminish, but on the bright side, it won’t taste bad, just different.

If you decide to freeze a McDonald’s ice cream, be prepared to take out a different ice cream than the one you put inside your freezer.

How Long Does McFlurry Last?

Since McFlurry is soft ice cream, the self-serving type, if frozen after opening, it will last for up to six weeks. If unopened, it will last for three to four months.

Can You Put McFlurry In the Fridge?

If you decide to store your McFlurry, it is better to freeze it than to refrigerate it. Not only will it melt, which isn’t the biggest problem, but leaving your McFlurry in the fridge will result in the breeding of bacteria. The freezer temperature keeps the bacteria at bay, but once the temperature is above 0 F (-17 C), your McFlurry can become a favorable bacteria environment.

How to Keep McFlurry Cold?

It is always best to have your McFlurry in one sitting but put it in the freezer if that’s not possible. It won’t be the same, but it would be edible and somewhat tasty. If you plan on eating it in the next couple of hours, refrigerate it, but not too long, an hour or two.

Can You Freeze McDonald’s Milkshake?

Neither freezing nor refrigerating is the right option for a milkshake, as freezing would turn it into ice cream, and refrigerating will significantly thin its consistency. Still, if you absolutely have to, it is better to put it in the freezer. If you freeze your milkshake, make sure you transfer it to the fridge for about an hour before drinking it to let it soften.

Can You Leave a Milkshake in the Fridge Overnight?

Refrigerating your milkshake will result in a runny and watery drink. The better option is to freeze it, especially if you are not going to drink it in the next two or three hours.
