Chicken Crescent Roll Ups Recipe
Usually, when I think about what to have for dinner, I think about what would be easy and quick to prepare but also delicious. Of course, I could always make a sandwich, but that’s the easy way out and not so inspiring. This, and because I had some leftover chicken, was how I got the idea to prepare this chicken crescent roll ups recipe last night.
What makes these roll ups special?
There is an excellent chance that you have all the ingredients for this recipe in your fridge and kitchen pantry cabinet, which makes these roll ups a perfect last-minute choice when deciding what to have for dinner after a busy day.
What’s more, Pillsbury crescent rolls are pre-made pastries created to make everyone’s life easier when wanting to make perfect, bakery-style pastries.
Lastly, this recipe could have many variations, as you can omit or add almost whatever ingredient you think would work.
How do you make chicken crescent roll ups?
With chicken crescent roll ups, you get a tasty, doughy, and soft pastry. This will become one of your family’s favorite comfort food dinners that doesn’t take much time to prepare. Let’s take a look at what ingredients we need to prepare them.
- Chicken – Let’s start with the star ingredient. While chicken breasts are the most standard part of the chicken used for making sandwiches and other stuffed doughs, you can use whatever leftovers you have.
- Bacon – Because no one will deny a bit of bacon to enrich their dish.
- Cheese – The omission of cheese is only reasonable if you make a sweet version of crescent rolls. Regarding the type, you can use whatever you like – Gouda, Emmental, Cheddar, or Feta.
- Pillsbury Crescent Dough Sheet – Crescent roll dough is something you should always keep in your fridge for quick and easy meals.
- Spices – Salt and pepper are an essential part of any meal. I also added a pinch of cayenne pepper that mixes nicely with chicken and adds that extra spicy feeling.
- Oil – You will need just a touch of oil to stick those spices nicely to the chicken and combine all the ingredients.
Now that you have all the necessary ingredients, you can start with preparation.
Step 1: Prepare the stuffing for the rolls.
Slice the chicken breasts into thin stripes – 0.5 inch x 0.5-inch max – sprinkle salt, pepper, cayenne pepper, and oil. Let it marinate overnight or at least for half an hour.
Step 2: Separate the crescent dough sheet into triangles and start filling them.
Cut the crescent dough sheet into 12 triangles. Put a stripe of chicken breast, a stripe of cheese, and a few bacon bits on the top of a triangle and roll them up.
Step 3: Heat the oven to 350 °F (180 °C).
Place the rolls on the baking paper, put them in the preheated oven, and bake for 17 minutes. Serve them while hot.
Chicken crescent roll ups recipe variations & serving suggestions
The best thing about this recipe is that you can use chicken leftovers. You can also use canned chicken or substitute it with turkey.
If you don’t feel like slicing the chicken, you can also choose to shred it and, if you use cottage cheese, mix them and maybe add some pickles.
Or, if you want to skip meat, you can try some vegetarian crescent rolls ideas as well.
Speaking of cheese, cream cheese works here perfectly as well. You can replace crescent dough with puff pastry, and the outcome will be the same.
If you think you need something with these hot and doughy roll ups, creamy sauces and dips probably go best with them. Tartar sauce or simple ketchup or mayo will also do.
How long do chicken crescent rolls ups last and how to store them?
Store the chicken crescent rolls in an airtight container, but avoid stacking them one over the other. Put them in the fridge for 3-4 days, while if you decide to freeze them, they can last for a couple of months before you reheat them.
You don’t have to put the leftovers in the fridge immediately. It is always better to leave them cool for a few hours before doing that.
