David and Victoria Beckham have raised four kids inside one of the most photographed households in the world, yet the actual rules around their dinner table sound surprisingly ordinary. Structure, not glamour, appears to be the real theme.

Between David’s love of comfort food and Victoria’s famously disciplined eating habits, Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz and Harper grew up with two very different influences on what ended up on their plates. The family’s actual routine blends both in a way that is more relatable than anyone might expect.

None of it involves a private chef dictating every bite. Here is what mealtime actually looked like growing up in the Beckham household.

Dinner At Six, No Exceptions

“We’ve always been about sitting down every evening at 6 pm,” David Beckham told People, describing a rule the family has held onto for years. Phones are banned entirely at the table, replaced with music playing in the background instead.

That structure gave the Beckham kids a consistent, distraction free routine most nights of the week, regardless of how busy either parent’s schedule got.

Weekends follow a completely different rhythm built around hours long grilling sessions at the family’s Cotswolds farmhouse, with Harper reportedly right alongside her father and brothers at the grill.

Weekends Mean The Grill Comes Out

David’s own taste in food leans toward classic comfort dishes rather than anything fussy. He has described a nostalgic love for mashed potato, liver, bacon and gravy, a recipe passed down from his own mother, according to Country Life.

That dish has stayed a family favorite even though only two of his four kids actually like it. His go to grill cut, meanwhile, is a humble skirt steak rather than an expensive option like Wagyu, a preference he has stuck with despite butchers regularly trying to upsell him.

Two Very Different Influences On The Menu

Victoria’s side of the table looks entirely different. David has said she has eaten largely the same meal of grilled fish and steamed vegetables for roughly 25 years, according to HELLO!, a habit strict enough that the family reportedly employed a personal chef in part to keep everyone else eating differently.

The kids’ actual diet growing up looks more balanced than either parent’s personal habits might suggest. Son Cruz once posted a photo of a McDonald’s run with his dad, captioned about not being able to decide what to eat first, according to BabyGaga.

Growing up Beckham meant a 6 pm dinner rule, weekend cookouts that lasted all day, and a household split between one parent’s decades long discipline and the other’s love of a good skirt steak. It turns out even one of the most famous families in the world just wanted everyone at the table together.
