She has one of the most recognizable voices on the planet, a string of smash hits, and a ‘Wicked’ franchise that turned her into a full-blown movie star. But lately, people are just as curious about what is on her plate as what is on her setlist. Because when it comes to one particular food group, Ariana Grande does not stay quiet.

The Refusal That Goes Back Over a Decade

Meat is the thing Grande will not touch, and she has been saying so loudly since 2013. That year, she announced on social media that she was going fully vegan, describing the decision as a “joyous day.”

What set it all in motion was the documentary ‘Forks Over Knives’, which Grande has said pushed her to go completely plant-based. Over a decade later, the commitment has not wavered even slightly.

Even Her Grandmother Cannot Change Her Mind

The most charming proof of how serious she is came during her appearance on Hot Ones, where she explained that her family still has not fully accepted it. “My nonna always offers me meatballs and I’m like ‘No, thank you, I’m still plant-based,'” she told host Sean Evans.

She even quipped that her Italian family does not forget so much as simply refuse to remember. For someone raised in a Sicilian-American household where Sunday dinner is practically sacred, that takes real conviction.

The Italian Girl Who Eats Japanese Food

Here is the twist nobody expected. Despite her Italian roots, Grande told The Mirror that she does not eat a lot of Italian food because most of it contains meat or cheese. “I was raised on meat and cheese, so I’ve had enough for anyone’s normal lifespan,” she said.

Instead, her diet leans heavily Japanese and macrobiotic. Her trainer Harley Pasternak told Glamour that she loves daikon, lotus root, and adzuki beans, describing her approach as almost like a macrobiotic Japanese diet.

What She Actually Eats Instead

Day to day, Grande keeps things clean and whole-food focused. She eats plenty of fruits, nuts, beans, and vegetables, keeping ultra-processed foods to a minimum.

Strawberries are reportedly a daily staple, and edamame, tofu, and roasted seaweed regularly make appearances in her meals. It is not a restrictive diet so much as a deeply intentional one.

Grande has always been clear that her choice is rooted in something bigger than personal health. “I love animals more than I love most people, not kidding,” she told The Mirror.

Whatever you think of veganism, there is something quietly refreshing about a pop star who has held the same conviction for over a decade and is still turning down her grandmother’s meatballs with a polite smile.
