Edamame is genuinely one of the most nutritionally dense snacks available at any price point. Cleveland Clinic describes it as the highest-protein legume available, and one of the rare plant foods that qualifies as a complete protein, meaning it contains all nine essential amino acids the body cannot produce on its own.

A single cup delivers around 12 grams of protein and over 5 grams of fiber, which is the combination that keeps hunger genuinely at bay for hours. That is more protein than most people get from a handful of nuts, with a fraction of the calories and fat.

Here is the part that makes edamame specifically interesting for women. It is rich in isoflavones, plant compounds that some preliminary research suggests may help ease menopause symptoms including hot flashes and mood swings, according to Healthline.

Roasted edamame is also packed with vitamin K and folate, with a full cup providing around 50 percent of women’s daily vitamin K needs and more than 100 percent of the daily folate requirement.
