Zac Efron Has Never Eaten Junk Food on a Film Set — His Prep Rituals Are Next Level

There is a reason Zac Efron’s body has become one of Hollywood’s most obsessively studied transformations. It is not just the training, it is everything that happens at the table, between meals, and in the quiet choices most people never bother to make.

And once you find out what he actually eats before a big role, your grocery list will never look the same.

The Rule That Changed Everything

When Efron prepared for ‘Baywatch’, trainer Patrick Murphy put him on one strict, unbreakable plan. He cut all flour products and refined, processed foods from his diet completely.

He could eat a whole apple, but not apple juice. Brown rice was allowed, but brown-rice pasta was off the table entirely.

What Happened to His Cravings

A few weeks into the plan, something unexpected happened. His body stopped craving junk food entirely and started genuinely looking forward to clean, whole meals instead.

No willpower required. His appetite had essentially rewired itself from the ground up.

The Two-Week Reset

One of the sneakier parts of his food ritual is how often he changes the entire plan. Every two weeks, he rotated his macro ratios completely, adjusting protein, fat, and carbohydrates to keep his body from adapting.

He also drank a minimum of 100 ounces of water every single day. That is nearly three full liters before a single weight was lifted.

From Vegan to Elk

After ‘Baywatch’, the experiment kept evolving. Efron spent two years fully plant-based, and it transformed his energy and sleep almost immediately.

But eventually he underwent food sensitivity tests and realized something was off. He switched to intermittent fasting, two meals a day, and clean proteins like elk and chicken, with bone broth and sweet potatoes filling out his routine.

He also openly admitted that the extreme ‘Baywatch’ physique required powerful diuretics to achieve, and he has no desire to go back.

What is genuinely fascinating about Efron’s approach is not any single food or trick. It is the way he treats eating like a living experiment, constantly adjusting and never settling, because for him what goes on the plate is every bit as serious as what happens in the gym.
