Selena Gomez has one of the most charming relationships with food in all of Hollywood. She has filmed an entire cooking show, launched a second one, and openly admitted that none of it has made her any better at cooking. And yet somehow, she always seems to be eating well. So what is actually going on in that kitchen?

She Has a Cooking Show and Still Cannot Cook

‘Selena + Chef’ ran for four seasons on HBO Max and became an Emmy-nominated hit built entirely on one premise: Gomez having absolutely no idea what she is doing. Top-tier chefs guided her through intricate recipes, and Gomez has said some dishes took her five to seven hours to get right.

On the Good Hang podcast with Amy Poehler in September 2025, she addressed the fans who now call her a chef. “The idea and the concept of the show is that I simply don’t know how,” she said, laughing. The honesty is genuinely refreshing.

But She Has One Dish She Absolutely Owns

Ask Gomez what she can actually cook and the answer comes without hesitation: her nana’s chicken and dumplings. She has described it as a Southern comfort dish made with biscuits, shredded chicken, and a warm soup base, calling it the perfect cozy weather recipe.

It is the one dish she reaches for when she genuinely wants to cook for someone. And considering how rarely that happens, it clearly holds a special place.

Benny Blanco Is Running That Kitchen

The real cook in Gomez’s household is her fiancé, Benny Blanco, who published a cookbook for friends in 2024. Gomez has described watching him cook as one of her favorite things, saying he loses himself completely in the process.

He also makes her the same breakfast every day without exception: some version of chorizo and eggs, whether in a quesadilla, a tortilla, or served alongside rice and beans. Gomez has called it her favorite thing to wake up to.

The Lunch She Eats Every Single Day on Set

On the set of ‘Only Murders in the Building’, Gomez picked up a very specific habit from co-stars Steve Martin and Martin Short: eating the exact same lunch every day. Her standing order is a chicken salad sandwich with grapes and a pickle on the side, a meal she calls easy, consistent, and genuinely exciting to look forward to.

She has jokingly called it an “old man tendency” absorbed directly from her co-stars. Given how good it sounds, nobody is arguing.

What She Eats When the Set Wraps

When dinner rolls around, Gomez leans toward bowl meals at home: Asian-marinated salmon, chicken, avocado, or cucumber, assembled casually for herself and friends. Sushi is a regular dinner option, and ramen has landed a spot as her definitive guilty pleasure.

For fast food, her go-to Taco Bell order is a Mexican pizza and a chalupa, reportedly mentioned at the Golden Globes with absolutely zero apology.

She Took Her Food Obsession to Restaurants Too

After ‘Selena + Chef’, Gomez went even further with ‘Selena + Restaurant’, which debuted on Food Network in 2024 and followed her visiting top chefs across the country to attempt their signature dishes. It gave her access to extraordinary food without requiring her to master it herself, which is honestly a genius approach to a cooking show.

Selena Gomez may never be the one doing the cooking, and at this point that feels entirely by design. With Benny Blanco behind the stove, her nana’s recipe on standby, and a chicken salad sandwich waiting on set every afternoon, she has built a food life that is both deeply personal and completely enviable.
