Equipment

  • 1 deep baking dish
  • 1 kitchen mallet

Ingredients

  • 14 oz turkey breast about 3 cutlets
  • Salt, pepper, garlic powder
  • 3.5 oz ham see notes
  • 5.5 oz cheese like Gouda shredded
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • yellow onions

Instructions

Prepare the meat.

  • Place the turkey cutlets between two pieces of plastic wrap or inside a freezer bag.
  • Pound them with a meat mallet until they're thin and even.
  • Lightly season both sides with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  • You can do this step a day ahead or at least a few hours before cooking.

Preheat the oven.

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

Prepare the baking dish.

  • Lightly grease a small baking dish with butter.
  • Slice the onions into half-inch thick rings and spread them evenly in the dish.

Assemble the rolls.

  • Lay each turkey cutlet flat.
  • Place a layer of ham and a portion of shredded cheese on each.
  • Roll up each cutlet tightly.
  • Arrange in the baking dish.
  • Place the turkey rolls seam-side down on top of the onion slices.
  • Leave a little space between each roll.
  • Add butter and cover.
  • Dot the tops of the rolls with small pieces of butter.
  • Lightly cover the dish with aluminum foil, just draping it over without sealing tightly.

Bake.

  • Bake the covered dish for 35 minutes.
  • Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes until the turkey is cooked through and lightly browned.

Serve.

  • Serve the stuffed turkey rolls on the bed of baked onions.
  • Enjoy with your favorite side dish!

Notes

You can use any ham you prefer, but be cautious with salting the cutlets if you're using cured meats. For example, I used prosciutto, and the dish turned out saltier than it would have with regular ham.
